Introduction

Stonecross Manor Hotel, dating back to the 19^th Century is now an AA 3 star hotel and is situated on the fringe of the medieval market town of Kendal. The hotel is the ideal base for exploring the Lake District and the Yorkshire Dales or an excellent overnight stop off point when travelling to or from Scotland.

Catherine’s Restaurant is named after Catherine Parr, the sixth wife of Henry VIII who spent the early part of her life in nearby Kendal Castle.

The heated indoor pool offers welcome rejuvenation after a day of hill walking or sight seeing.

History to the present day

Stonecross Manor was originally an orphanage for young girls who were to go into service, bequeathed to Kendal in 1857 by the Squiress of Levens, Mrs Mary Howard.

Food and Drinks

The restaurant opens for breakfast Monday to Friday 7.30am - 9.15am Saturday and Sunday 8.00am - 10.00am, and also for lunch and dinner to residents and non residents alike offering the very best of Cumbrian cuisine, using locally sourced fresh ingredients. The a la carte and table d’hote menus suit every taste and budget and the wine list represents the best European and New World wines, complimenting the extensive menu range.

Sunday lunches are also very popular or enjoy a traditional pub meal in the relaxed atmosphere of the Westmorland Bar.

Private rooms are also available for special birthdays or anniversaries.

Other facilities

Free wi fi is available throughout the hotel. A guest lounge is available on the ground floor with a wide screen digital TV for guests to enjoy. The small indoor heated swimming pool is exclusively for the use of guests.

Reception is manned until 23.00hrs. If you are arriving later than 23.00hrs please notify the hotel. There is a night porter on duty between 23.00hrs and 07.00hrs. Limited room service is available between these hours.

Directions: Travelling to Kendal from the North or South by car from the M6 take exit 36, onto the A590, signposted to SouthLakes and Kendal. Do not take the left turn to Barrow but continue on the A591.You will pass a BP petrol station on the left, take the next exit signposted South Kendal, A6. Follow this road and you will find the Stonecross Manor Hotel on the left-hand side at the brow of the hill. If you go over the hill you have gone too far.

The hotel car park is at the rear of the building but you may wish to unload your luggage at the front door.

Oxenholme Lake District Railway station is a 5 minute taxi ride.
