Introduction

Swinside Lodge Country House Hotel is a unique Georgian Lakeland property set in its own gardens situated at the foot of Cat Bells in the Newlands Valley, making it one of the best Keswick Hotels. It is surrounded by fells - Skiddaw, Blencathra, Cat Bells, Causey Pike and Swinside.

Recently listed in the Sunday Times 11 Best Valentine's Day Hotels, listed on TripAdvisor as one of the Top 25 UK Hotels and recently voted 23 in the Travellers' choice 2011. All of the hotel's seven bedrooms are tastefully and calmly decorated in the Country House style, offering a high degree of comfort and relaxation and a TV with built in DVD/CD player. Each bedroom has a view towards either Cat Bells and Causey Pike or alternatively to Skiddaw and Blencathra mountains.

History to the present day

Built in 1795, the property, a gentleman's lodge was part of the nearby Lingholm Estate.

Food and Drinks

Breakfast is served daily from 8.30am - 9.30am and is a choice of full English or continental served with a selection of juices and teas and coffees. For dinner, the hotel serves a locally sourced 4-course menu that changes daily, starting with aperitifs and canapés, and finishing with a selection of hot or cold desserts and coffee. Guests can also enjoy Swinside’s impressive selection of over 120 wines. Dinner is served at 7.00pm for 7.30pm

Grounds and gardens

The house sits in landscaped gardens at the foot of Cat Bells in the Newlands Valley. The garden teems with wildlife, so relax in the unimaginable peacefulness, taking in the wealth of exceptional views. The entire area is a perfect place for the nature lover as well as an ideal base from which to tour and explore the many treasures of the English Lakes.

Other facilities

An excellent selection of up to date DVD's is available within the reception area for your enjoyment throughout your stay. A shoe shine service, fax and photocopying is available. The tranquil beauty of the shores of Derwentwater is a mere 5 minute stroll away where the Keswick launch provides a regular service round the lake.

Directions:  Situated midway along the Portinscale to Grange road and located by leaving the A66 Keswick to Cockermouth road at the signpost for Newlands Valley, Portinscale, Grange. By staying on this road through Portinscale, for approximately 2 miles the hotel will be found on your right.
