Introduction
The Heathers Guest House is a detached, 1930's bed and breakfast with the benefit of private off street car parking and a large garden. The property is furnished to a high standard with traditional styles such as William Morris, Sanderson and other designer materials and furniture in keeping with the age of the house.
The accommodation is well located being just over 1 mile from the historic Walls of the City of York.
All rooms are either ensuite or have a private bathroom. Accommodation at the front overlooks meadowland with cricket and rugby pitches beyond the car park whilst at the rear of the house lies a large peaceful garden.
Please note that there is a minimum stay of 2 nights on a Friday or Saturday and 3 nights for Bank Holidays/Race meetings/local festivals.
History to the present day
The house was originally built in the 1930's for the spinster sisters of a York family following the Great War. However, it was clearly also built to allow for family use: a complex of air-raid shelters was found during extension work to the property implying the entire family came to the house for over-night shelter during the bombing raids of The Second World War.
The current proprietors are only the 4th owners the house has had since it's construction. The road outside the house is one of the original Roman roads into the fortress of Eboracum.
Food and Drinks
A range of options for breakfast are available and can be discussed on arrival including vegetarian and coelic options. Food is prepared with fresh ingredients and special requirements can be met if known in advance.
All rooms have a hospitality tray with coffee and a range of teas, plus fruit and herbal teas.
Grounds and gardens
At the rear of the house lies a large peaceful garden, visited by a range of local wildlife and birdlife. Book a Superior Ensuite double for the best views of these visitors.
The garden has its "own" pack of a fox, hedgehog, squirrel, wild rabbit, wild ferret and weasel. Some 20-30 species of bird appear - but there are no guarantees of an appearance...
Other facilities
Free off-street car park on site with guaranteed space for all guests. For those not wishing to take their car into York, a bus service into the City runs roughly every 10 minutes from a bus stop 350 yards from the front driveway.
Free Wi Fi Internet access is available in all rooms.
A free guided walking tour of the City is recommended to all guests - the best way to see more of this historic city, and know what you are looking at. This runs at 10.15 am each morning; with afternoon and evening walks in the summer months.
