Introduction
Situated in the heart of the Kentish Weald, The Star and Eagle stands 400 feet above sea level with outstanding views. An ideal central spot to visit all the attractions such as Sissinghurst, Leeds, Scotney and Hever Castle.
Blazing log fires in the winter months make this a cosy place to stay as is the wonderful Terrace at the back of the hotel in the Summer months overlooking the tremendous view.
The hotel offers 10 traditional bedrooms including an original antique Four Poster and an old fashioned Half Tester bed. All rooms are of the highest standard and vary considerably in style. All rooms are centrally heated, with televisions. Many also have a private bathroom or shower.
Most of the rooms have views overlooking the surrounding countryside or the neighbouring parish church.
History to the present day
Dating back to the 14th Century, the Star and Eagle has played a significant role in the local history, and was once reputed to have been an ancient monastery. Relics of the vaulted stonework of the period are still visible in some parts of the building.
During the 18th Century the Inn became the headquarters of the "Hawkhurst Gang", who robbed and terrorised the surrounding district, and planned smuggling raids. Today the Star and Eagle offers all the comfort and facilities of a 20th Century hotel with the charm and atmosphere of a bygone era.
Food and Drinks
Full English or Continental breakfast included.
The Star and Eagle also offers a wide selection of meals served either in the traditional styled split-level restaurant complete with linen cloths and napkins or more informally in the bar and Refectory. Using the very best local and homegrown produce, the resident Chef creates a quality range of English and Continental dishes.
Exposed brickwork, massive seasoned beams, and an ancient inglenook fireplace with blazing log fires in winter create the perfect atmosphere to enjoy good food and drink.
Grounds and gardens
In the warmer months, guests can enjoy the paved terrace to enjoy meals or to relax with a drink.
Other facilities
Wi-Fi is available throughout the hotel. Room service is available.
