Introduction
Uplands House overlooks an area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. It stands in a garden within old parkland, and it is hidden away down a long drive in the Warwickshire countryside. We are only 15 minutes by car from Moreton in Marsh, Stratford on Avon, and Warwick Castle, and this is a great base from which to explore and discover the Cotswolds. Everything you will want to see is within easy driving distance.
We try to provide the very best of English country house hospitality. You will enjoy an enthusiastic welcome, comfortable rooms, and views over the parklands. We will provide tasty organic produce, home cooking, a surprisingly good wine list, log fires, and every comfort in relaxing and peaceful surroundings.
All bedrooms have their own ensuite carpeted bathrooms in which we provide large towels and dressing gowns, soap, shampoo and bubble bath. Guests will also find in their rooms fresh flowers, a colour television, radio clock, tea and coffee making facilities, heated rollers and a hairdryer.
We offer a single person occupancy rate on Monday - Thursday only. Please enter the code SINGLE to receive this special rate.
History to the present day
Uplands House was built using the stone from old Ratley Manor - a 12th century house that had to be pulled down. Stone was dragged up the one and a half miles from the village using horses and carts. The old manor was thus reconstructed in its present form in 1875. In 1881, the visiting rector the Rev A. Child described it as "a very superior farmhouse".
Uplands House has been occupied by several families through the 20th century, and was purchased by the present owner in 2003.
Food and Drinks
A welcoming tea with irresistible home made cake is served on arrival, by the fire in Winter, or on the terrace in Summer.
In the morning, guests can enjoy a substantial Warwickshire breakfast. It includes freshly squeezed orange juice from real oranges, cereals, berries from the garden with yogurt, honey and toasted nuts, followed by eggs, bacon, sausages, tomatoes, baked beans, black pudding, smoked salmon, kippers and kedgeree (ordered in advance), tomatoes and mushrooms and home-made bread, honey, jams and marmalades plus the coffee and teas of their choice.
A candlelit dinner is available most nights. We also have a very good wine list and those who enjoy a good bottle will be spoilt for choice. A selection of reasonably priced house wines are offered in addition. If you require dinner, please request this in the Additional Information section of the booking form, along with any dietary requirements.
Grounds and gardens
The house stands in its own tranquil garden, facing south over a ha-ha, and across the grassy pastures planted with mature trees where the sheep graze. There is a large lawn, suitable for croquet and badminton, a very pretty rose garden with a waterfall and a fishpond. Elsewhere scented roses, hedges of lavender and tangles of clematis, wisteria and honeysuckle provide a haven for wild birds. There are secluded places to sit and ponder.
Other facilities
Wireless internet is provided, but please bring your own laptops.
