Introduction
Wadham is an attractive 17th century College set in tranquil gardens and yet situated in the centre of Oxford on a quiet road. Everything is within easy reach whether it be restaurants, pubs, cinemas, museums or theatres. Train and bus stations are also within easy reach.
Bedrooms are grouped together in traditional staircases and each room will be provided with a welcome toiletries pack, card-operated telephone, Fair Trade tea and coffee-making facilities, towels, washbasin, refrigerator.
Unfortunately due to the age of the buildings our rooms are unsuitable for those with mobility problems. The minimum age for guests is 21.
Smoking: all our rooms are non-smoking and we ask that if you wish to smoke that you do so in outside areas at least two metres away from all buildings. The Front Quad and area immediately to the front of the main entrance are strictly no smoking areas.
Sorry but we do not accept Hen or Stag groups.
We hope you enjoy your stay with us.
History to the present day
Wadham College was founded by Nicholas and Dorothy Wadham in the reign of King James I. Nicholas died in 1609 leaving his fortune to endow a College at Oxford. The hard work of translating intentions into reality fell to his widow, Dorothy, a formidable lady of 75 who through sheer determination had the College ready for opening within four years of Nicholas’s death. Dorothy added considerably to the endowment from her own resources and kept tight control of its affairs until her death in 1618, although she never actually visited Oxford from her home in Devon to see the results of her generosity and business acumen. The style of the building is a fairly traditional Oxford Gothic, modified by classical decorative detail, most notably the ‘frontispiece’ framing statues of James I and the Founders immediately facing visitors as they enter the College.
Notable members of the college in its early years include Robert Blake and Christopher Wren. Recent members have been Dr Rowan Williams, the present Archbishop of Canterbury and Melvyn Bragg, broadcaster and novelist.
Food and Drinks
The hall, one of the largest in Oxford is notable for its great hammer-beam roof. Portraits include Lord Lovelace, who held Oxford for William of Orange during the Revolution of 1688; the inscription records his role in freeing England ‘from popery and slavery’.
Breakfast is included in the price of your room, and is served in the hall from 8.00 – 8.45am. The Breakfast Menu consists of fruit, cereal, toast and/or a full English breakfast with a vegetarian option.
During the vacations you are welcome to relax with a drink in our JCR Bar which is open each evening from 6 – 11pm.
Grounds and gardens
A stay at Wadham gives you the opportunity to relax in beautiful tranquil gardens. Restored and reshaped following the Second World War, the present gardens are divided into the Warden’s Garden, the Fellows’ Private Garden and the Fellows’ Garden, together with the Back Quad, the JCR Quad, the Cloister Garden (originally the cemetery), the White Scented Garden, and the two strips of land (now turfed) immediately in front of the College. Wadham’s gardens are notable for their collection of trees (specimens include a silver pendent lime, tulip tree, golden yew, purple beech, cedar of Lebanon, gingko, giant redwood, tree of heaven, incense cedar, Corsican pine, magnolia and a rare Chinese gutta-percha).
Other facilities
All of our bedrooms have cabled internet access so please bring your own internet cable with you. Cables can also be bought from the Lodge.
A central laundry facility is available with washing machines, dryers, ironing boards and irons. We are an environmentaly friendly college. During your stay towels will be changed every 2-3 days. If you would like them to be changed more frequently, your cleaner or the Lodge will be happy to change them for you.
Wadham also boasts the oldest (1748) custom-built concert hall in Europe known as Holywell Music Room. It may be possible for you to visit this famous music hall during your stay.
Depending when you choose to visit you may have the opportunity to purchase tickets to an open-air performance of a Shakespearian play in the Wadham gardens. Further details of dates of summer performances may be obtained from the Wadham Conference and Events Manager.

Customer feedback
We guarantee that all our feedback is genuine and can only be submitted by people who have booked through our websites.
Mrs lisa ford, April 2012: We thoroughly enjoyed staying in the college! The staff were extremely friendly and helpful and we were lucky enough to be upgraded on arrival. The only thing I would find any fault with was that vacating the room by 10 am (although it was made clear on booking) stung a bit!
Miss Charlotte Wylde, April 2012: We were amazed with the size of the room, and enjoyed the space we had. It was very clean and modern and we were well welcomed.
Mrs Gill Watts, April 2012: Thoroughly enjoyed experience.Planning another visit!
Mr Edward Fyfe, April 2012: I did not know about University Rooms until I looked to book a single room for one night on Thursday last week. I found the university rooms site by chance on Alistair Sawday's website. My night in Wadham College was perfect. Right where I needed to be, well priced, friendly and a delightful experience. Well done to all staff at Wadham.
Mr Mike Lynch, April 2012: I spent a very pleasant hour 'unwinding' in the garden. Thanks.
Mrs Marie Lebon-Siegert, April 2012: we loved our experience and will renew it. the staff were all very friendly and efficient
Mr Bryan Neville, April 2012: A super experience all round. Very helpful staff.
Dr Maria Alessandra Panzanelli Fratoni, April 2012: There was a trouble during the first night to the heating system. Apart from this, everything went very well.
Dr GURDEEP MANN, April 2012: Realy enjoyed my one night stay here.
Got a very good deal which was greatly appreciated.
Lovely breakfast in the communal hall. A great way to start my visit to Oxford. Many thanks!
Ms Katherine Smith, April 2012: Staying at Wadham was an amazing experience! I had a single ensuite room overlooking the main quadrangle and couldn't believe how spacious, modern and sparkling the room was. There was even a mini fridge and a towel warmer! Breakfast was great and the porters were very helpful.
Mrs Annabel Mallia, April 2012: All the staff were very courteous and helpful. The room was simple and spacious with a nice welcome pack. The breakfast was plentiful and delicious with fresh pineapple slices, brown and white bread toast, a large choice of cereals and a fabulous full English breakfast not to mention ham, cheese and fresh croissants.
Mr KELVIN CHEUNG, April 2012: great service and staff! esp. at breakfast!
Mr David Haskell, April 2012: Great location, fantastic breakfast, clean room, good shower pressure, excellent reception service. Uncomfortable lumpy mattress, and shower curtain left water pool on bathroom floor.
Dr David Arnott, April 2012: A comfortable and problem free visit. The porters and the staff in the dining hall were very friendly.
Ms Sonja Patscheke, April 2012: I had a wonderful stay at Wadham. The only downside was the quality of the bed, you should really replace the matress, you feel every spring when sleeping on it. Thank you
Dr Bradley Garrett, March 2012: The women who run the breakfast hall were so wonderful, they deserve an award! The gardens were lovely as well. The room was okay, I didn't like that I paid the same price for each night and was only offered shampoo etc., on night one. Wifi did not work in my room. The place was very hard to find the first night with no name on the building. I had to just push the door and guess. Good overall.
Ms Jean Lifter, March 2012: We actually didn't take advantage of the breakfast so I left the rating at average. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay and found the accommodations to be perfect - we had a beautiful room - plenty of space, bathroom facilities were excellent, and the porters were helpful and always available. The location was excellent - all in all, it couldn't have been nicer. Booking was easy and straightforward and, when I contacted the facility shortly after making the reservation, they were informed and helpful. Having internet access was also a plus.
Dr Rhona Brown, March 2012: I've stayed in a few Oxford Colleges, but Wadham is by far the best. The rooms are spotless and practical, and the staff are warm and helpful. The location is also great - perfect for research trips to the Bodleian, but also for shopping jaunts. Many thanks!
Mr Charles Wright, March 2012: Catering staff very helpful
Noisy on Monday morning with building works opposite
Mrs Caroline Drake, March 2012: Second visit to Wadham and already looking forward to the next! The porters and kitchen staff are so welcoming and helpful and the breakfast in hall is real treat. Our twin room was very spacious and comfortable and the college garden was a beautiful tranquil place to relax after sightseeing. So much nicer than a hotel or B&B!
Mr Robin Kneebone, March 2012: Wadham is very central. Far better value than a hotel. Very helpful staff.
Dr Victoria Mier, March 2012: Room was lovely, and very clean - ensuite bathroom immaculate. Bed very comfortable, room well equipped, including a fridge, armchair and big desk. Lots of stairs to climb (was on the top floor), but good exercise! (You can state when booking if too many stairs are a problem.) Breakfast was excellent (and of course served in a fantastic dining room), and all staff very friendly and helpful. Very good way to stay at a reasonable price in central Oxford. Easy to book; excellent service all round, would definitely recommend staying in a college.
Mr Cliff Rice, March 2012: Superb setting in the heart of town. The room was a good size, quiet and comfortable. Good full english breakfast and cereals.
I took a walk around the grounds and will definitely be back to see them in full bloom.

Mrs Jane Crook, December 2011: Brilliant location and a beautiful building oozing history. Pefect!
Mr Martin Kemp, December 2011: Wadham go to great lengths to see that the experience is a good one for the visitor. The room, above the porter's lodge in the front quad, was spacious and well furnished, with a great outlook. A thoroughly enjoyable visit and we will be back! Shame there was no accommodation free for 17th December, when we had to go elsewhere.
Mr Sean Bremner, October 2011: Wonderful service and excellent breakfast!

Mrs Barbara Blakemore, October 2011: This was a most enjoyable visit ..... we felt well informed and very well cared for during our stay... a lovely breakfast in a most wonderful setting - with really considerate and informative service. This really is worth doing for longer next time - would recommend it to anyone who wishes to have a peaceful break in the very heart of Oxford in truly memorable historic surroundings. Thank you.
Miss WEICHUN LIU, October 2011: very great experience to stay in this college..
definitely will book this college's accommodation next time
Dr William Bedford, October 2011: Everything about my stay was a delight: from the room to the college environment, the service to the wonderful breakfast. This was my second stay at Wadham, to continue my own research at the Bodleian, and I will be booking Wadham whenever I can in the future.
Mr Andrew Turner, October 2011: This was an inspired idea and booked for a couple of American ladies intent on exploring Morse's Oxford and 'Midsomer Murders England' (!) away from the big cities it provided a profound experience... Actually must mention that the accommodation was as advertised, very clean and presentable, breakfasts a knockout experience, and the staff excellent and very obliging. Not only that, the room had quad views too. Value for money indeed! Highly recommended.
Ms Lorna Gilbert, October 2011: Wadham College is a brilliant place to stay. The staff are all friendly and courteous, the rooms are pleasant, spacious and clean, and the breakfast is of the highest quality with excellent variety. The dining room staff were particularly welcoming, organised and attentive. I would highly recommend a stay and will certainly be returning for another visit.

Mrs Elaine Pullum, September 2011: Everything was made very easy for us. Staff were extremely friendly. The facilities were very much up to standard and the whole experience was too good to miss.
Ms Mary Frank, September 2011: A wonderful experience. The rooms were large and comfortable, the buffet breakfast wonderful. The staff members went out of their way to make us feel comfortable and welcome. It was the highlight of my three weeks in England and I will certainly do it again.
Mr Michael Holliday, September 2011: Outstanding setting with very helpful staff. Excellent city centre location yet very peaceful. A great experience which we would strongly recommend any visitor/s to Oxford to consider.
Miss Alison Nuorto, September 2011: couldn't beat the location. Everyone I encountered was very helpful and accommodating. The breakfast was of a very high standard and I was impressed by how much choice there was. The staff were extremely helpful and accommodating. I would definitely stay there again and wouldn't hesitate to recommend the accommodation to friends.
Mrs Anna E Zimmer, September 2011: I had a lovely stay at Wadham College while attending a conference at Oxford. It was a treat to get a feel for life at Oxford. Breakfast was delicious and the staff in the dining hall were especially friendly.
Mrs Emma Horsey, September 2011: From the beginning, extremely courteous, helpful staff. Room was huge, much bigger than I had ever expected, although slightly chilly, but I think that was generally down to the change over of seasons. Breakfast was very, very good. A nice selection and the hot food was hot. Waitressing staff were extremely polite, helpful and very attentive.
The whole experience of staying at Wadham was a pleasure and I certainly intend to repeat it. Oh yes, the complimentary selection of toiletry was an added bonus. Clean towels and sheets, comfortable bed. What more do you want!
Mr Bryan Neville, September 2011: A great experience and a pleasure to stay at Wadham College
Dr Deborah Tranter, September 2011: Great way to experience Oxford if you don't mind fairly basic accommodation. Been a while since I've used shared bathroom but neat, clean room, friendly and helpful staff and beautiful buildings and grounds. The dining hall (and breakfasts) a special treat. Many thanks.

Miss Margaret Packham, August 2011: We had an enjoyable stay and would recommend it to anyone

Beautiful gardens, very friendly staff with excellent attention to detail. The "scout" was very friendly and helpful.
The room was spacious and quiet which was ideal as I had work to do. Many thanks.
Mrs Cathy Lewis, July 2011: Love the college and its gardens. Staff were really friendly. Fabulous location for exploring Oxford.

I hope to stay at Wadham at other occaisons.

Mr Edward Johnson, July 2011: A real treat! All the staff were brilliant and the room and service were first class. I've stayed in top hotels that didn't come up to these standards. Will recommend Wadham college to my friends and I'll look forward to returning.
Eddie Johnson
Christopher Catling, April 2011: Didn't have breakfast, so can't judge, but I thoroughly enjoyed my stay and will use this service again.
Martin Kemp, April 2011: Top marks for everything and most helpful, friendly staff! Terrific room in 1st Quad.
Mrs Mary Lowe, April 2011: Very enjoyable experience. Difficult to put a value on atmosphere, but it was there non-the-less. A pleasure to enjoy such a venue with so many historic and literary associations.

Judith Milne HOme, April 2011: The facilities and service at Wadham college were fantastic. The room was very clean. All the staff were extremely friendly and helpful, especially the people on the front desk who went out of their way to be helpful. I was very impressed with the room and I would definately stay here again. Highly recommended, especially the fabulous breakfast.
Mr Jean-Baptiste LEGER, April 2011: It was sincerely wonderful. Thank you !
Mr Ken Aknai, April 2011: The room and ensuite bathrooms were very clean and spacious, with lovely views over the quad and gardens. We enjoyed relaxing in the quiet college gardens. The breakfast staff were pleasant, courteous, and served us quickly, and the breakfast was superb. Staying in this ancient college was a fantastic experience, and I hope we'll be back.
Mr barrie powell, April 2011: I thought the shower pressure was a little lacking and some fruit on the breakfast table would have been welcome. Otherwise I could not have asked for more
Christina Stone, April 2011: We enjoyed our visit and although we were attending an event at another college we chose Wadham because we wanted to stay in an historic quad rather than a modern block. Special mention must be given to Jackie in Hall who was particularly friendly and attentive and the staff in the Porter's Lodge who were friendly and gave helpful advice.
Mr David Ryles, April 2011: Wadham is a lovely college, ideally situated. The breakfast was very good, and all the staff we met were friendly and helpful. We will be going back. Highly recommended.
Mr antony houghton, April 2011: very nice, clean & comfortable.
TVs would have been a good idea, as would better quality toiet tissue, but overall very nice indeed
Ms Diana Gillooly, April 2011: My room was called a single, and did have just a single bed, but it also had an enormous living room, beautiful views front and back, new bathroom, strong wireless signal. I've always loved Wadham's austere face, but am happy to say that the austerity is not carried over to the rooms. An amazing deal -- which made up for the impressive train fare.
Mrs Lydia Stow, April 2011: I booked 3 single rooms for myself and 2 friends and we were delighted to see we had been given 3 rooms together in the old building, one of which had a separate sitting room so we could relax together in the evening. The rooms were attractive with lovely views over gardens, en suite facilities were spotlessly clean, towels, toiletries, fridge, kettle etc and even a hairdryer were all provided. The breakfast was superb - 5 star quality. Will be going again.
Miss Lisa Conopo, April 2011: Beautiful place and friendly, helpful service. No complaints whatsover, would definitely stay there again.
Mr Yuhui Lin, April 2011: excellent room, nice shared bathroom which you only need to share with one people in the same floor. They do even have a mini fridge in the room. Strongly recommend

Catalina Mandoki, April 2011: wonderful stay
Mrs Anna Cowper-Canaux, April 2011: The sparkling cleanliness of the cosy study bedroom looking out into the peace of the historic quad, the deliciousness breakfast in the cavern of the refectory, with cardinals land kings looking down from the walls, the friendliness and helpfulness of the porters in the lodge and the servers - it was like a dream! Then, stepping out of the door right into the centre of Oxford, literally three minutes' walk from the Bodleian, the Radcliffe camera, the Ashmolean. A wonderful experience and incredible value for money - thank you!

The porters were welcoming and helpful and kept our bags before we took up the room and after checking out. The room was large, clean warm with loads of piping hot water. Lots of tea and coffee and milk.
Breakfast the next day was good and hot with kind but discreet service.
Some students returning during the night outside in the grounds were a bit noisy but what can you expect at a university! It didnt last long!
Prof Paul Watson, March 2011: College room, food and staff all excellnt
Ian McDonald, March 2011: Many thanks for a very enjoyable stay.
Samantha J. Wylie, January 2011: Great thank you.
Kimberley Simpson, January 2011: I attended a conference in Oxford and was really pleased to find such cheap accommodation and was very surprised at how good it was. The location was perfect, and the college itself was beautiful; the room was very clean and large; the porters were really friendly and helpful; the breakfast was great - absolutely no complaints at all. I would highly recommend Wadham College to anybody looking for an excellent value for money room in Oxford, and will definitely come back myself to visit. Thank you!
Stephen Rigby, October 2010: All staff were courteous, friendly and helpful; the room was spacious, his 'n hers bathrooms; views over the quad, gardens were immaculate and tranquil and breakfast was just perfect. The location was ideal, very central and only two minutes walk from the Pitt Rivers museum and Bodleian Library, both were superb. Only one problem........we stayed just one night! Would definitely stay again and will recommend it to our friends.
Lutz Oberdörfer, October 2010: I have enjoyed my stay very much, esp. the at. in and around Wadham´s.
The staff from st. scouts, breakfast and the porters lodge was very friedly and accomodating, many thanks.
Thinking about to come back in the future.
Angela Swindell, September 2010: A very pleasant and memorable experience.
I look forward to future visits.
Many thanks.
Dafydd Price Jones, September 2010: Enjoyed. Would stay again.
WENJIN SHAO, September 2010: great room!!!
Douglas Martin, September 2010: Very enjoyable visit - the one problem I had with the room was quickly, politely and efficiently resolved
David Reed, September 2010: Staff all excellent and helpful, and my room was fine but not luxurious (of course!). Lunch on the Saturday was very good but it would have been nice to have had more time after the lunch to relax and meet more of the people at the event. And breakfast at 8:00 on a Sunday was far too early for me, and check out at 10:00am is also rather early, leaving me with a feeling of being harrassed and not as relaxed as I would have liked. I guess some of these comments are more down to the event organisers than yourselves and, overall, my stay was very enjoyable.
James Nelson, September 2010: My ensuite single room in Wadham College was just perfect for my brief one night stay in Oxford. It was exceptional value for money with a great breakfast as a bonus. I could not fault it and it fullfilled all my requirements. Highly recommended!
Eleanor Kate Taylor, September 2010: Really fantastic stay - everyone was extremely helpful! Despite being in the centre of Oxford the room was really quiet and the breakfast was delicious. Will be going back again!
Hazel Beasley, September 2010: A wonderful experience
Rose Henderson, September 2010: Very tranquil and atmospheric
Joanna Heath, September 2010: Loved it - very friendly and atmospheric. Even coffee making facilities, luxurious towels and toiletries supplied in the room. Excellent breakfast in the great hall: everything you could possibly want. Not easy for a disabled person or right for someone wanting ensuite facilities. But I would definitely book again.
Getta Sutton, September 2010: Outstanding experience: Wadham and its quads are quite beautiful. The room was spacious, comfortable and clean. The porters were most helpful. The price made it the best value for money of the colleges I have stayed in so far. I did not have breakfast as I had to leave early.
Dawn Townshend, September 2010: All the staff were particularly helpful and nice. A wonderful and unusual experience.
Terje Lind, September 2010: I am a bit hesitant to write comments, because I want to keep this fantastic place as a secret for myself and my friends! The fact is however that staying at Wadham College was a true Oxford experience. The first welcome was very friendly, the room was quiet, light and very large (40m2?) and well appointed, with to roomy closets (good for long time stays), two desks, a coffe table and leather chairs and a nice bathroom. The beds were OK, but not first class. The full English breakfast (with lots of cereals, fruits etc also) in the Hall (what an ambience!) was excellent. Add to this that Wadham is located in the middle of everything in Oxford, and the price (much less than half of what a hotel would charge for the same quality), and you need not look any further. One little thing however: If you have made a booking, and want to change your plans, the charge for non-shows are very high!
bart cogghe, September 2010: Really enjoyed the experience! Had a wonderful big room in the old part of the college with view of the dreaming spires of Oxford. I would have loved to have had this room as a student! Also, you cannot be more centrally located than at Wadham College! I felt very welcome as a guest, will certainly come again. Only thing that was not so good was the shower, even though the bathroom looked very new, there was not enough pressure on the water (had room in top floor).
Quentin Gelder, September 2010: As one would expect, it was all first-class . . . whether I shall be back soon depends only on whether my own College lets me down again !
Anya Haywood, September 2010: We had a very enjoyable experience. Great breakfast - so much better than my college days!
A. Rogan, September 2010: A delightful stay in! Would definitely stay again.
Yifeng Fan, September 2010: Great
Walter R Crozier, September 2010: Excellent accommodation, with a very good breakfast. The college is perfectly located for a visit to Oxford. Parking is difficult, particularly for loading and unloading luggage, but the porters were very helpful in giving advice.
David Alterman, September 2010: real treat
Sam Williams, September 2010: We had a wonderful stay at Wadham College on 11-12 September. Lovely rooms, warm and friendly welcome, exceptional breakfast and impeccable location. Excellent value for money. The only minor niggle was the shower which was more of a dribble, but the overall standard was excellent and much better than any other college I've stayed at. Thank you!
Mrs Peggy Probett, September 2010: Good location!
John Simkin, September 2010: Wadham provided an attractive and convenient location for our meeting. The service was always friendly, fast and efficient
Richard Guy, September 2010: outstanding
Penelope Vita-Finzi, September 2010: We greatly enjoyed our stay at Wadham particularly the gardens - and the breakfast. Our only complaint (not one that can be addressed) is that floodlighting is not conducive to sleep.
Sarah Backhouse, September 2010: I enjoyed every minute of my stay and was especially grateful for the call at 9 o'clockish to say that I could check out after Nicholas Barber's brunch - very considerate and relaxing! Many thanks to everyone involved. Sarah Backhouse.
Mr J Mellor, September 2010: Our first experience of using a University for accommodation and we were highly satisfied with Wadham and have recommended it to friends.
Stephen Schatz, September 2010: loved it, hope to return
Andrea Mastromarino, September 2010: I spent some wonderful days at Wadham College, in a nineteenth-century atmosphere. I recommend everyone to live here
Bhaskar Thakur, August 2010: If you could check out later than 10am, that would have been a real bonus!
Catherine Rendall, August 2010: We would recommend Wadham College as an excellent base for a stay in Oxford. The standard of accommodation and breakfast were excellent. Thank you to the porters and kitchen staff for their great welcome and help throughout our stay.
Priscilla Auyeung, August 2010: Great location.
Interesting experience.
Rooms much cleaner than those in hotels charging the same rate.
Highly recommended.
Mr David G Marshall, August 2010: Friendly staff and the quality of the accomodation in the students room and the atmosphere of the chapel ,dining hall, and gardens in a central location make Wadham a good choice for a stay in Oxford. Could not fully enjoy my visit to Oxford however as the weather was grim.
Javier Gonzalez Ravina, August 2010: Everything was perfect. Thank you very much.
Charlotte Sutton, August 2010: We had a truely memorable three days among the dreaming spires. Our spaceous room with twin beds & ensuite was perfect & breakfast in the Great Hall was brilliant, all the staff were so friendly & helpful. One highlight was the Oxford Shakespears Company's performance of "The Tempest" in the garden of Wadham College (where we were staying), a totally unexpected magical experience.
Tara Kelly, August 2010: Really lovely staff and everyone was very friendly and helpful! Will definitely stay here again if I get to the chance!
Alexandra Borisenko, August 2010: Loved every moment of my stay. The beauty of the old college, and breakfasts in the Hall, and "Tempest" performance in the gardens! Thank you, I hope to come back.
Emily Stead, August 2010: Breakfast was great but finished very early for a Sunday. Many of the party missed out because of such a short window (45 mins).
ANNE HENEY, August 2010: This was a really lovely room, and the breakfast was better than I had recently at a 4 star London hotel.
Maria Marcela Martinez, August 2010: An excellent experience and attention. Thanks very much.
Ariane Diegenant, August 2010: We have been staying at Wadham College for four nights in July 2010. Although we travel a lot and are not undemanding, we can safely say that this was a unique experience. For a start, the location of this college is unbeatable, as it is practically on Broad Street, where all the tourists want to go and yet once inside the college grounds, there is peace and quiet. We felt really privileged to be able to wander around the beautiful gardens, with the delicate fragrance of the huge flowering lime trees as an added bonus. Our twin en-suite (staircase 5, room 1 a and b) was very spacious, as shown in the photograph on the web site, very clean and beautifully refurbished with new carpet. It had two desks with chairs, two arm chairs and two dressing rooms (!), and looked out on both the front and back quad, a real treat. Breakfast is served in the spectacular dining hall. A very friendly lady makes you feel welcome and shows you in. She makes sure coffee, tea and toast is brought to your table by the waiters, and ensures that everything runs smoothly and efficiently. The buffet, which is set up where the high table would normally be, is plentiful and offers all the various hot foods, as well as fresh fruit, cheese and cold meats. The croissants taste as if they have been imported straight from France, really delicious. During our stay, there were open air performances of Shakespeare plays in the gardens but this didn't interfere with a good night's sleep as they started and finished quite early. Needless to say, we would stay at Wadham College again. Beats any hotel!
Rebecca Stacey, August 2010: Had a great time, incredibly handy for everything I needed, I will definitely be back.
Many thanks
Rebecca
Susan Rose Nash, August 2010: I stayed at another college room during the trip and Wadham was the nicer of the two for the better price.
Margaret Justice, August 2010: Everything was very clean, and nicely prepared when we arrived. Staff were helpful, and the breakfast was lovely. Thank you for a pleasant stay.
Isabel Regina Guerra Aleman, July 2010: The room was very confortable and clean, as well as well furnitured (included table, chest of drawers, closet, and a mini-refrigerator. Good bathroom. The only inconvenience were the 3 very high and staircases that is difficult to climb with big and/heavy bagagges.
Anne Marie Bellet, July 2010: A lovely stay at Wadham college! Quiet, peaceful...with a delicious scent of lime (?) when you arrive. The spacious twin room was great and the full English breakfast marvellous. We'll come back.
Elaine Cain, July 2010: Room was good. Sharing the bathroom was a little difficult as everyone was getting ready to leave around the same time. Breakfast was great and the ladies serving who explained everything were very helpful and friendly. The college was a nice environment to stay in, even for just a short time. Would recommend it to others.
Carol Sharpe, July 2010: Staying at Wadham College was oasis of peace and calm after wandering around Oxford which was very crowded. I loved the garden and the breakfast was one of the best I've had anywhere. The room was spotless and tea and cookies welcoming. Thank you
Wil Verhoeven, July 2010: The room was a little cramped and given the basic facilities it offered, a little pricey. But other than that, my overall experience was great and I would certainly consider to stay again.
W L Hance, July 2010: Staff were very welcoming. Breakfast in the hall was a treat. Very pleased, commend unreservedly.
John Halstead, July 2010: Very satisfied
Kathleen Polfliet, July 2010: a great way to stay in Oxford; very central, large room, new bathroom and good breakfast (only a bit early)
Miss S.E. Hughes, July 2010: All the Staff were friendly and helpful;excellent breakfasts, plentiful hot water supply and certainly adequate rooms. The 3rd flight of stairs proved rather challenging to us at 70+ and we never did discover whether or not we were meant to make our own beds but this was all part of a most interesting experience.
Jayne Henley, July 2010: It was a very special 'Oxford' experience to be able to stay in the College accommodation, the College & grounds oozing with character, very central to the town, and the breakfasts were excellent!
Fiona Rose, July 2010: Exactly what I wanted from staying in an Oxford college. Brilliant.
Lisa Stoddart, July 2010: We were thoroughly delighted with the quality of the accomodation, the friendly, helpful attitude of all the college staff we met and the breakfast was wonderful (albeit a little early on a Sunday!). It was very special to see such history so closely and we plan to return next year.
Eva Wollenberg, July 2010: Had an exquisite stay, thank you. The porters and other staff were highly professional and beyond helpful. The room was beautiful and all was spotlessly clean. The bed could be sturdier (tended to rock when you turn), but I would stay again in a second!
laura fraser, July 2010: lovely team. and i didnt eat breakfast as only started at 8a.m. and i left every morning for my conference before then. would have been great to have had the option to have brakfast at 7am!
Julie Eckerle, July 2010: I will definitely use University-Rooms.com the next time I come to Oxford. And Wadham was perfect for my work at the Bodleian. An excellent experience all around.
Anthony Bartlett, July 2010: really enjoyed my stay at Wadham
Mary Collier, July 2010: Huge room with lots of windows very close to the main entrance. It was newly renovated, very beautiful.
Georgina Walker, July 2010: staff very friendly.
Dragos CALMA, July 2010: Wadham College is a nice place, not so old as the others and less famous; everything was excellent except for the internet (so complicate to get access!) and the price (100£ per night only to stay in a 2 bed room in an ancient College where the room has basic facilities and it's modern! In All Soul's College a 2 bed room had a small nice library, ancient furniture etc.). The breakfast is copious, but very very good; with a small army of people coming and going to serve you as a prince (a French socialist wouldn't like it). Don't forget to visit the museums (Pitt Rivers and the Natural History Museum at 2 minutes from the College).
elizabeth anne ralphs, July 2010: We thoroughly enjoyed our visit to Wadham. The only tiny quibble was that one of the temporary beds was rather unstable. Otherwise the room was excellent and the breakfast too tempting!
john murphy, July 2010: what a fantastic college-great room great food great service
Mette Petersen, July 2010: We missed the TV a bit, but overall we were impressed and had wonderful stay at Wadham College. The best parts were the atmosphere, the quiet and the breakfast in the wonderfull hall.
Tim Heald, July 2010: Never penetrated Wadham before and was amused on entering rooms to hear the inimitabkle tones of my friend Colin Dexter in a tent below the window talking to the county's blind. Felt like joining in the applause but forbore! Good gardens, especially the bamboo and how do you get fried eggs to look like that? Taxi booking particularly good and though happy to have been a student down the road very content with a brief stay in Wadham.
Ian Davies, April 2010: Oxford is a university town, and there's no better way to appreciate it and experience it than by staying at one of the colleges. Our stay at Wadham could not have been better and I give it the highest possible rating in every regard. Our room was large, charming, and very comfortable, with a completely new bathroom. Our large mullioned windows overlooked the very old but immaculate quad courtyard and the window seat gave us a wonderful spot to read our books. The porter and security staff were personable and helpful and the dining staff could not have worked harder to make us feel at home. Having lodged at many locations throughout Great Britain I can confidently say without reservation that the Wadham breakfast experience is the best of its kind. The quality and selection of food surpassed anything we've seen, and the thrill of dining in the beautiful great hall was an experience that we will always treasure! Nice work, Wadham!
Eric Meldrum, April 2010: Fantastic experience. Thoroughly recommend it.
Dr. Eric F. Fiedler, April 2010: Once again, I'd like to thank you for my very enjoyable stay . The Full English breakfast in the Great Hall comes to mind as a gastronomical highlight. On a more spiritual note, several long walks in your lovely and peaceful gardens afforded the chance to collect one´s thoughts before being swept up in the days workload waiting outside of your comforting and protective walls. One can only envy those who for a large part of the year have these wonderful facilities at their disposal!
Sincerely,
Dr. Eric F. Fiedler
Vanessa Sherwood, April 2010: It was a very pleasant stay in an excellent location and the traditional setting really made you feel like you were in an old, old city. Breakfast was second to none and the staff were delightful.
K B Hill, March 2010: The reception staff, and breakfast lady, were exceptionally helpful and courteous. Everything was very good.
Mrs Helen Hughes, March 2010: We really enjoyed our stay, although it was short! We would definitely stay there again. The only suggestion I would make it breakfast is served very early & we didnt make it at 8 am on a Sunday morning!
Daniel E. Jeske, March 2010: Very nice room and great surrounding. Even the breakfast was made special inside the impressive dinning hall.
Julia Elcock, March 2010: The room was very comfortable and the college staff could not have been more helpful.
Johan Schoeman, February 2010: My wife and I stayed in what could be described as the honeymoon suite - a large double room with small kitchen. It was splendid. The breakfast is a real treat enjoyed in the magnificent Hall. All the staff were extremely helpful - porters, kitchen staff and management.
This has been the second time we booked a College Room through UNIVERSITY ROOMS - first in Cambridge and now in Oxford. Both experiences were very positive. A brilliant concept, but not necessarily for budget travellers, because the rooms are not that cheap.
Johan P Schoeman, South Africa
Linda Andrews, February 2010: Amazing value for money!
Mr Neil F Brown, February 2010: We had a fantastic stay at Wadham College and as an ex-Student I would highly recommend staying at an Oxford college which gives a real experience of what it is like to study at Oxford
Stephen Mitchell, February 2010: The quality of the room was excellent - it had obviously been recently refurbished but still maintained its historic character. The college green spaces are beautifully maintained. All staff were friendly and helpful. The breakfast experience in the dining hall was also excellent, with very friendly staff. This was a great way to experience Oxford.
Berenice Scott, February 2010: A very enjoyable stay in an extremely spacious room. A little table inbetween the beds would have been very useful.
Simon Stevens, October 2009: A wonderful night in Wadham which took me back to student days elsewhere in Oxford. The great thing is that this experience is now open to everyone. The room was lovely, the college grounds were well kept and full of interest, and breakfast was plentiful. At breakfast I was welcomed very nicely and shown what was where, then shown to a table. To anyone staying in Oxford I'd recommend a student room over a hotel any time, for the experience. Wadham in particular did it very well. Good luck to all who offer and take up this wonderful scheme.
Amanda Strange, September 2009: Fantastic location, beautiful grounds, delicious breakfast in the very impressive dining hall - I really enjoyed my stay and can't fault it!
Mrs Joline Dunn, August 2009: Very competent staff. Lovely room with two dressing rooms! enormous. enjoy!
jill bristow, August 2009: We really enjoyed our stay. The twin room was huge and had two ensuites! We would recommend Wadham College to anyone.
Lorraine Anderson, July 2009: Breakast was incredible. To walk into the dining room all laid out for a
meal is breathtaking and the service is excellent. Please pass along our
compliments to the dining room supervisor.
Stayed here for my son's graduation and it was fantastic to be a part
of the University.
Rob Barker, July 2009: Very pleased with our choice. Wadham is excellently placed for all of Oxfords many facilities and great historical sites, all within walking distance. Breakfast in the dining hall was a treat with attentive service. We were very happy with our room overlooking the quad, and enjoyed the freedom of wandering around the gardens. Appreciate the rooms have recently been redecorated and therefore were not quite as old looking as expected, the only 'drawback' was the light in the bathroom which came on day or night as soon as we walked into it (quite blinding in the early hours). This is not a complaint just an observation, and we would heartily recommend Wadham to anyone wanting to stay in a great setting in the heart of Oxford.
Jan Quinn, July 2009: I can't comment on the breakfast because I didn't sample it. Everything else was very good, clean and in good repair and the staff were extremely helpful.
Carole Stone, July 2009: Everyone in the lobby was very very helpful indeed internet, cable, taxi, luggage to room. First class service with thanks.
Carole Stone
Mr T G Unsworth, July 2009: Our accommodation, large twin en suite room, was excellent in all departments. Furnishings, quality of decor, welcome packs all made for an enjoyable stay in Oxford. Breakfast in Hall provided a varied and satisfying basis for the rigours of daily sightseeing. Would certainly recommend to anyone wanting a "home from home" base for their stay.
Mrs Janet Wilson-Ward, July 2009: A friend and I were on a touring holiday, staying at different types of accommodation each night. This was the highlight of the trip - the room was superb and the location lovely, and the staff were very helpful and friendly.
Janet Ingall, July 2009: Great experience with good friendly staff. Super Breakfast !!
