Introduction

White Smocks is a family run bed and breakfast offering luxury accommodation in a quiet country location with extensive views across the valley. Conveniently situated approximately 5 miles from Bath, Castle Combe, and Lacock and are central to many of Wiltshire’s other attractions.

Assured to give guests a warm Wiltshire welcome and are pleased to help with your daily plans and advise on restaurants and places to visit. White Smocks has received a top five diamond award and is included in Britain's Best Bed and Breakfast guide.

Two individually designed en-suite rooms, a Four-Poster bedroom (or Family room with the addition of a cot and/or single bed), a Twin (or king size) bedroom and the Blue Room which sleeps 2 and has its own private bathroom.

History to the present day

From the magnificent Spa city of Bath to the medieval market town of Castle Combe, this is an excellent location from which to explore the heritage of the ceremonial county of Wiltshire.

Food and Drinks

Breakfast is served in our recently completed dining room and we try to obtain as many of our ingredients as possible from local and organic sources. A vegetarian option is available and any other dietary needs can be catered for with prior notice.

You can help yourself from the buffet of fresh fruit and a variety of cereals then enjoy a Continental or Full English breakfast or, as an alternative, scrambled eggs with smoked salmon.

We do not serve lunch or dinner but the local pub, the Northey, is five minutes walk away and serves lunch each day and dinner on weekday and Saturday evenings. In addition there are several local pubs a short drive away that serve meals.

As we don't have a licence we cannot serve you with alcoholic drinks, but guests are welcome to bring their own and we can supply glasses and ice.

Grounds and gardens

Guests have free use of the gardens with country views across the valley. There are several places to sit, the sunny south facing patio, the shady gazebo with views across the valley or, in the evening sun, on the small west facing terrace.

Other facilities

The guests' sitting room has satellite television and log fires in the winter.

If you would like tea or coffee on arrival or before you leave, then in winter we can arrange this in the lounge in front of a real log fire, or in summer outside in the garden.

We are quite happy to store your luggage, or for you to use the lounge or garden if you wish to arrive earlier or leave later.

Directions:

By car: We are a mile west of Box on the A4. Take the turning opposite the Northey pub (signposted Ashley) up to the to T-junction (approximately 200 yards). We are facing you at the T-junction, to the right of the thatched cottage.

Travelling by train: Ashley is half way between Chippenham and Bath. Taxis are available on the forecourts of both stations, or catch the 231/232 bus which will take you to the Northey from where we are a short walk.

Travelling by coach: The frequent National Express coaches to and from London and Heathrow stop in Box village which is less than a mile from Ashley. By arrangement we could meet you at the coach stop.
